Alan Watts on the nature of truth (1959)

Sometimes when I listen to the old recordings Alan Watts left behind, I imagine them as a present-day podcast, and I think, “This is better, more interesting, and more relevant than 99.9% of anything I’m listening to in 2021.” Here he reflects on the nature of truth, in 1959.

Echoes (with vocals)

Music & Lyrics: Isaac Dust
Video: Christian Bodhi

Pieces
I see pieces of
all the promises
that I used to love
Sometime
down the line
I’ll be free
I’ll be fine
Echoes
I hear echoes of
all those useless words
that I let go of
Memories
Fantasies
While the fire dies within me

Green Desk Studio tour – 11/27/20

Every music nerd has their own quirky, ever-evolving set-up. 20 years ago, I had a green desk, built by my then-girlfriend now-wife, upon which rested a Tascam Porta-02 Four-Track Cassette recorder and an SM-57. Today, my 50th birthday, I’m still singing through that SM-57, but I’ve accumulated a bunch of other toys over the years, almost all of which are still integrated into the current incarnation of “Bobby’s playroom.”

Happiness Thief

Music, Lyrics, Voice, & Guitar – Isaac Robert Dust, a.k.a. Bob D.

Video – Stefania Buzatu (@StefWithAnF)

[Always a mess, always a hundred miles from home
Starting from scratch, looking to strike out on my own
Tell me I can, show me the other way around
Let’s make a plan, let’s plant a flag into the ground
Wrapped in the chains, such a familiar cozy place
Feeling the strain, feeling the tension in my face
Heavy with grief, feels like I’m stretched upon the rack
Happiness thief, somebody stop him in his tracks
Let it all go, just let it sink into the earth
Forget what you know, all the way back before your birth
When I was kid, I always knew my right from wrong
Now I don’t know, I’ve been asleep for far too long]
