5 minutes

Reverb 10 Prompt (from Patti Digh): Imagine you will completely lose your memory of 2010 in five minutes. Set an alarm for five minutes and capture the things you most want to remember about 2010.

[6:33am, Note to self]

Five minutes! Shit, am I really gonna do this one, in real time and all, right now? I just woke up! My brain is mush! Everyone will know how slow my mind churns, my lack of typing skills… I need to think about this for a bit first, or else I’ll leave some important stuff out. But then I won’t really be doing the prompt, and this one really has to be done right now, in five actual minutes, or else the whole point of the thought experiment will be missed. I need to finish my coffee! Tic toc tic toc… Oh shit, let me think…

Umm…

Shit, all those songs that I learned!

Fuck.

Ummm…

Okay, Glen Hansard! Listen to every album he recorded with The Swell Season and The Frames, and watch every YouTube video you can find of him. It’ll change your perspective on playing music.

And read your blog and journal to catch up on the rest!

Oh yeah, and you have a new nephew!

Not fair! I am NOT a morning person!

  1. There is a baby in your blog post so every other point you made in it is either moot or irrelevant in light of such phenomenal cuteness.

  2. @Stereo: Yeah, I had to throw a cute baby in there to draw attention away from the fact that I couldn’t come up with jack shit in five minutes (especially at that ungodly hour).

  3. Ok, I have to give you points for actually doing the prompt immediately! I definitely cheated and slept on it and then thought about it before setting the timer.

    Fun post. :)

  4. @Aba: I’ll take whatever points I can get for this one. Actually, I was relieved to only spend 5 minutes on writing today. It’s becoming overwhelming to write, read, and comment, considering all the great people I’m connecting with. I’m losing track of people AND losing sleep. I need to find a better balance before I crash hard.

  5. Ha! I was laughing. This is actually how I think.

And I am not usually much for babies, but that one is, like, paralyzingly cute.

    1. @Kim: If it’s true that we think alike Kim, then perhaps there’s hope for me after all!

@Diana: Yeah, writing under the gun like that was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Especially before my morning coffee!

@Debra: I’m jealous you got see The Swell Season! I had never heard of them or The Frames before a few months ago. I just stumbled onto them via YouTube videos. Now I can’t get enough. It’s been many years since I’ve been completely blown away by an artist. Glen is just pure soul when he performs. Amazing!

  6. Oh my, I LOVED this post! I haven’t done mine yet, but I expect it will be similar. I’m so terrible at writing under the gun. And that baby … amazing. Enjoy him!

  7. Fun take on the prompt and well played with the distracting, adorable baby. Also, I fully agree about Glen Hansard. I saw him live a couple of years ago with The Swell Season and he did a “buskers version” of Leave – just him, front of the stage with no mic and no amp. Blew. My. Mind.
